If you’re experiencing tooth sensitivity or toothache, you may have a cavity. This is caused by the acid produced by the bacteria in plaque. Cavities are common in people who consume a lot of sugary foods, snack frequently, and don’t brush their teeth regularly after eating. They consist of an area of tooth decay, that needs to be removed and filled to secure the affected tooth and stop the pain. With white fillings, nobody will even know that you’ve had a cavity treated.
When you visit us for your filling, we’ll administer local anaesthetic to ensure the process is pain-free, before removing the decayed part of the tooth. The area is then filled with a white filling material. Your new white filling will be barely noticeable when you smile.
Don’t let your fillings ruin your smile confidence or oral health. White fillings provide an effective solution to cavities and they look great!
Symptoms of having a cavity include tooth sensitivity when you have hot or cold drinks, a throbbing, sharp pain, or even a visible hole in your tooth. If a previous filling has been damaged, you’ll need a replacement.
White fillings are made of safe, durable materials, such as composite resin, or ceramics. Once a drill has been used to remove the decayed part of the tooth, the filling material will be bonded to the tooth to seal it.
The main cause of cavities is sugary drinks, frequent snacking, and not cleaning your teeth thoroughly. If you keep an eye on your sugar intake and make an effort to brush your teeth after every meal, you should reduce your chances of needing further fillings. Regular hygiene appointments will ask to help prevent fillings.
The time it takes to complete a filling varies depending on the size of the cavity and the location of it in your mouth. It may take as little as 10 minutes, or up to an hour.
When looked after well, white fillings should last for up to 10 years.
There is a common misconception that you’ll be in pain when you have a filling. As we’ll give you a local anaesthetic to stop the throbbing tooth pain, you’ll likely be in less pain than before the treatment started! You shouldn’t be in any pain during the procedure and we’ll do everything we can to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible.
We’ll need you to visit us for your pre-treatment consultation before we can provide the filling. This is for us to assess the size and location of the filling needed, as well as do any preparation necessary. It may be possible for you to have your consultation and treatment appointment on the same day, back to back. Once your filling has been placed, will give you advice on how to best look after it until it settles.
Don’t let pain, or fear, put you off getting the filling you need. We can treat your cavity effectively, in minimal time, ensuring you experience maximum comfort. All of this without compromising the look of your smile. Please get in touch to book your appointment.
